Youth & Food Security
The Biocultural Education and Research Programme is committed to engaging youth on issues of relevance to sustainable development goals. In 2023 we launched our Youth and Food Security project with three primary schools, St. Martins Mangrove, St. George Primary and Lawrence T Gay Memorial. This project was executed with support from Global Resolve at Arizona State University Barretts Honour College, Pallette Barbados of the private sector and the Organic Growers and Consumers Association with Bernice Chase (Food Designer). The programme will be extended over 10 schools and will include instruction on nutrient dense and medicinal local plants, the importance of soil, the value of composting and methods of propagation. Our Programme Assistant for Agriculture Simeon Clarke will monitor the progress of the project. Programme Assistants Joanne Simmons-Boyce and Kimberley King provided key support.
